This Privacy Policy explains how Zorzen Studios ("we", "us") handles information in connection with the mobile game Glossa: Word Puzzle (the "App") and the website at playglossa.app (the "Site"). Read it together with our Terms of Use.
1. Who we are
The data controller is Zorzen Studios. For any privacy question, or to exercise your rights, write to privacy@playglossa.app.
2. Our approach
Glossa is local-first. We run no accounts, no logins and no backend that stores your personal data. Your level progress, Stamps, streak, settings and hint balance are stored on your device and, when you allow it, in your platform's own backup: iCloud key-value storage on iPhone, Google's automatic app backup on Android. Those backups are governed by Apple's and Google's privacy terms, not ours, and we cannot read them.
3. Information processed, and why
3.1 Advertising
The free version of the App shows ads served through Google AdMob: an interstitial between levels at most once every 3 completed levels (never mid-puzzle, never on a retry, skippable after 5 seconds), and rewarded ads only when you choose to watch one. A rewarded ad may be a short video or a small playable demo of another game. AdMob may fill an ad request from Google or from one of the ad networks it mediates for us: Unity Ads, Liftoff (Vungle) and ironSource (Unity LevelPlay), whose software is part of the App for this purpose. To serve and measure ads, Google and these networks may process a mobile advertising identifier and other device identifiers, device and app information (such as model, language, screen and connection type), an approximate location derived from your IP address, ad-interaction and app-usage data, diagnostics and, for some networks, information about in-app purchases. Where required, for example in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, Google's consent form is shown before any ad is requested, and you can change your choice later under Settings › Privacy options. On iPhone the App then shows Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt; if you decline, ads are not personalised. Google's form records your choice in the IAB Transparency & Consent Framework format, which the App makes available to the mediated networks; how each network then uses your data is governed by that choice and by its own notice below. Google's ads are limited to a general-audience (G) content rating; for the mediated networks we use each network's own content and category filters, which differ from network to network. Google's own notice is at policies.google.com; the networks' notices are at Unity, Liftoff and ironSource. The Welcome Pack, Lifetime and Plus show no ads at all: the App then never starts the advertising software or requests an ad. The mediated networks' code still does a small amount of set-up when the App opens, for every player (it registers for the App's lifecycle events).
3.2 Usage statistics and diagnostics
We use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the game is played: which language is chosen, which levels are started and completed, how often hints are used, which purchase screens are opened, and which letter combinations the dictionary rejected (so we can fix word lists). Firebase also records basic crash and diagnostic information automatically. These events carry no name, email or account, and no identifier we can link to you. Rejected letter combinations are the letters on the wheel you swiped, never free text.
3.3 Purchases
Purchases are made through Apple's App Store or Google Play. We never see your payment details. To recognise what you own across reinstalls we use RevenueCat, which processes your store transaction identifiers and an anonymous app-user id. Your entitlements (Welcome Pack, hint packs, puzzle packs, the Daily Archive, postcard themes, Lifetime, Plus) are restored from the store, not from us.
3.4 Notifications
The daily clue, the streak reminder and news are local notifications scheduled on your phone. There is no push service and no device token, and nothing about them leaves your device. You can turn each one off in the App's settings or your phone's settings.
3.5 Sharing a result
A share card contains, for example, the day's emoji, the letter count, your tries and your streak, never the answer. It is handed to the app you pick through your phone's share sheet; we do not receive it.
3.6 Achievements
The App reports achievements (for example "Complete 50 levels") and your Daily Emoji solve times (the Rankings) to Google Play Games on Android and Apple Game Center on iPhone. They are optional: Play Games signs in only if you already use it on your phone, and Game Center only if you are signed in to it; the App never asks on its own, only when you open Settings › Achievements or tap the sign-in link on Rankings. When you use them, Google or Apple processes your gamer profile (gamer name and avatar), the achievements you unlock, your solve times and ranks, and diagnostic data under their own privacy terms. The Rankings' Friends tab reads your Play Games or Game Center friends list only after you open it and allow it on Google's or Apple's own prompt. We see only which achievements were unlocked and your own rank, not who you are; Glossa has no accounts, friends lists or social features of its own.
3.7 The order of puzzle packs
The Store shows puzzle packs in an order that suits your market: the country of your App Store or Google Play account and the language you play. The App fetches the current order rules from Google Firebase Remote Config; to deliver them, Google processes a Firebase installation identifier and basic device information (the country and language settings of your device, time zone, operating system and app version). Your store country is used on your device only. The rules are the same for everyone in a market, nothing is personalised to you, and every pack can be bought everywhere.
3.8 The Site
The Site is static and loads its fonts, images and scripts from our own domain. Our hosting provider processes standard request data (IP address, browser and the page requested) to deliver and protect the Site. No advertising runs on the Site, and it has no embedded videos, maps, social widgets, chat, captcha or payment forms.
3.9 Cookies and storage on the Site
On your first visit the Site loads nothing from Google and sets no cookie. It shows a banner with two equal buttons, Accept and Decline. Only if you press Accept does it load Google Analytics (gtag.js from www.googletagmanager.com), which then sets the cookies below and sends page views and a few clicks (store buttons, language switches, FAQ questions opened) to Google, with Google signals and ad personalisation turned off. If you decline, close the banner or ignore it, Google Analytics never loads, and anything you click before choosing is not recorded or sent later. A Global Privacy Control or "Do Not Track" signal counts as a decline. Scrolling or browsing on is never taken as consent.
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|
glossa:analytics-consent (local storage) | Zorzen Studios | Remembers your choice (accept or decline) and its date | 12 months, then we ask again | Essential |
sveltekit:scroll, sveltekit:snapshot (session storage) | Zorzen Studios | Restores your scroll position when you go back or forward between pages | Until you close the tab | Essential |
_ga (cookie) | Google Analytics | Tells visits from the same browser apart, with a random id | 12 months | Only with consent |
_ga_PN4GPMW57H (cookie) | Google Analytics | Keeps the state of the current visit | 12 months | Only with consent |
You can change your mind at any time with the "Cookie-instellingen" link at the bottom of
every page. Declining there stops Google Analytics at once: the Site switches it off, removes
its script and deletes the _ga cookies and any Google keys it finds in your browser's
storage. If your browser blocks storage, your choice is kept only while the page is open, and the
banner appears again on the next page.
4. Legal bases (EEA and UK)
- Consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)): personalised advertising in the App (withdraw any time in Settings › Privacy options) and Google Analytics on the Site. Storing or reading the analytics cookies on your device needs your prior consent under Art. 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive and the national laws that implement it (for example the Dutch Telecommunicatiewet and the German TTDSG); withdraw it any time with "Cookie-instellingen" at the bottom of every Site page.
- Strict necessity: the Site's own storage of your cookie choice and of the scroll position is exempt from consent, because the Site cannot honour your choice or navigate without it.
- Legitimate interest: non-personalised ads, crash and usage statistics, the order of puzzle packs, Site delivery and security, fraud prevention.
- Contract: recognising and restoring your purchases, and achievements when you use Play Games or Game Center.
5. Retention
Progress stays on your device until you delete the App or its data. Analytics events are retained by Google for at most 14 months. Purchase records are kept by the store and RevenueCat for as long as your entitlement is active and as required by law.
6. Children
Glossa is a general-audience word game rated Everyone / 4+. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Google's ads are limited to a general-audience content rating, and we apply the mediated networks' own content filters.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export data about you, and to object to or restrict its processing. Because we hold no account data, most of these rights are exercised on your device: deleting the App removes your progress; Settings › Privacy options and your phone's advertising settings control ad personalisation. For anything else, email privacy@playglossa.app. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
US state privacy laws (such as California's): we don't sell your personal information for money. In the free version, the App's ad partners (section 3.1) may use your phone's advertising identifier and ad-interaction data to show personalised ads, which some US state laws treat as "selling" or "sharing" personal information. You can opt out at any time: under Settings › Privacy options where the App shows it, by turning off Allow Apps to Request to Track on iPhone, or by deleting your advertising ID on Android (Settings › Google › Ads). We don't use sensitive personal information, and we don't knowingly sell or share data of anyone under 16.
8. International transfers
Google, the ad networks named in section 3.1, Apple, RevenueCat and our hosting provider may process data outside your country, including in the United States, under standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision.
9. Changes
When this policy changes we update the date above and, for material changes, tell you inside the App.
